Gregory Magarshak
Building Technology. Protecting Privacy. Designing for Trust.
For Gregory Magarshak, technology has never simply been about what can be built.
The more important question is:
Should we trust what we build?
A mathematician, researcher, systems architect and entrepreneur, Gregory has spent more than fifteen years designing technology around privacy, security, decentralisation and user control.
He holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics from NYU’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences and today teaches artificial intelligence and emerging technology at IE University in New York.
But Gregory is as much a builder as he is a researcher.
He created technology platforms and applications that have reached millions of users across more than 100 countries, while developing open-source infrastructure spanning social networks, distributed systems, blockchain, cryptography and artificial intelligence.
His philosophy is clear:
Privacy and security should not depend on promises. They should be built into the architecture.
That principle has shaped much of his work.
From encrypted distributed storage and privacy-preserving social platforms to cryptographic verification, AI agent safety and governance systems, Gregory focuses on creating technology where trust can increasingly be verified rather than simply assumed.
Today, much of his research centres on one of technology's most important emerging challenges:
How do we use increasingly powerful AI while keeping humans in control?
Through projects including Safebots, SafeBox and SafeCloud, Gregory is developing approaches to AI execution, privacy and governance designed to ensure that automated systems operate within clearly defined boundaries, leave auditable records and protect sensitive information.
His career has also been anything but conventional.
Long before mathematics, software and artificial intelligence became his professional focus, Gregory was a concert pianist, beginning extraordinarily young and performing at venues including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.
That combination of creativity and analytical thinking still characterises his approach today.
Understand the problem. Question the assumptions. Build the solution. Test whether it can be trusted. Then improve it again.
Within StaySafe Certified, Gregory brings an important dimension to the team: the ability to connect technology, artificial intelligence, privacy, verification and trust with the practical challenges organisations will face in the years ahead.
Because the future of safety will not only depend on better procedures.
It will increasingly depend on better systems.
And as hospitality becomes more digital, connected and automated, those systems must be designed with the same principles that underpin physical safety:
Resilience. Accountability. Privacy. Trust.
For Gregory, innovation is not about technology replacing human judgement.
It is about building technology that helps people make better decisions — while ensuring that people remain in control.
